Whitehorse Divers is a not for profit organisation providing a support system for the coaching staff who provide diving instruction to athletes from the beginner level to the senior competitive level.   Whitehorse Divers works to defray expenses for divers so they can go as far as their talent and desire takes them.

The Committee (through the President) acts as liaison with the Director of Coaching and Senior Coaches.   Parents are encouraged to discuss suggestions, concerns and complaints with the Committee.

The Coaching Staff of Whitehorse Divers is entirely and exclusively responsible for training plans, instruction programmes, athlete promotion and athlete discipline.   The Coaching Staff group is headed by the Director of Coaching  The Director of Coaching employs all the coaching staff, determines salaries and does all the hiring, training and evaluation of coaches.

The key to Whitehorse Divers is the separation of power between these two groups.   As parents we have an inherent conflict of interest and should not be expected to be objectively involved with athlete programs.   If the President of Whitehorse Divers is unhappy with the way his child has been promoted or disciplined he cannot fire the coach!   At the same time, the coaching staff does not need to be concerned with the minuta of parent suggestions, opinions and concerns.   Nor do they need to worry about how Whitehorse Divers spends its funds.

The money in Whitehorse Divers' bank account comes from the work of parent volunteers, parent fund-raising and membership fees paid by parents, so parents are well suited to determining how they will use that money to benefit the athletes.   In the past few years Whitehorse Divers have assisted in paying the expenses of coaches traveling to State, National and International competitions.   It has also been used to purchase equipment, finance coaching courses and pay bonds on training facilities.

Although each branch is an independent and viable organisation in its own right, both are interdependent and working together to raise the standards of athletes and promote safe diving.
